Who can enter?
If you are:

under 26 years old on 1 October 2009

a qualified butcher or working as an apprentice in the industry, then you can enter this competition.

regional entries are on a first come first served basis
When is the competition?
There are four regional competitions:

Conditions of Entry
- Conditions of entry in this promotional leaflet are to be read in association with, and form part of, these conditions of entry.
- Entries must be on the official entry form. Entries close on Friday 24 July for all North Island and 14 August for all South Island.
- Competitors must agree to abide by all the rules and Judges’ decisions. These decisions are final and no discussion or correspondence will be entered Into.
- Participants must attend a pre-competition briefing on the day of the competition. The venue and time will be advised to all entrants.
- The only meat to be displayed is that supplied by the organisers.
- Participants must be currently working within the district covered by the competition.
- The dress code is shirt and tie, trousers (no jeans) and suitable footwear with coat and apron, or the employer’s uniform. Hats must be worn when part of the uniform. Steel mesh gloves are essential. In the final, special uniform conditions may apply.
- All question papers and judging sheets remain the property of the organising committee.
- In the event of a dead heat, the chief judge will arrange a further series of questions which may be written, oral or both.
- The winner (or a runner-up selected as a deputy if necessary due to unforeseen circumstances) will be invited to represent each district in the National Final at Sky City, Auckland, on Thursday 1 October 2009. The Retail Meat ITO may select extra finalists.
- The finalists will have a return airfare paid to Auckland, local transport, meals and accommodation in Auckland.
- Time away from work to take part in the competition is not a cost on the event organisers or the Retail Meat ITO.
- Competitors must use the sponsor’s trays supplied specifically for the competition. Entrants will receive details of these.
- All competitors must agree to participate in promoting and reporting the competitions and to the use of their personal details for those purposes.
- Previous Grand Final winners of this event are ineligible to enter.
