Young Butcher of the Year Competition

The “Alto Young Butcher of the Year” is a prestigious event well regarded by the
retail meat trade and is a highly sought after prize by competitors.

For the first time in 2010 there will also be a “RMITO Butcher Apprentice of the
Year
” category, for all those contracted to RMITO as apprentices.

At the Regional Competitions:

  • A written test of your trade and butchery knowledge (mainly multi-choice/short answers) - 50 marks   
  • A short Interview - 25 marks.
  • A practical cutting test - 300 marks.

Grand Final

  • A question paper - 80 marks   
  • An Interview - 40 marks.
  • A practical - 400 marks.
  • An on-stage quiz  - 40 marks  (for the Alto Young Butcher of the Year contestants only.)

Is there a cost?

There is no entry fee.  You will have to transport yourself
to the regional competitions. Transport and
accommodation will be provided to all finalists.  For the
finalist your employer must agree to pay for the day you
will in Auckland.  (See entry conditions).

The Final

The final will be held in Auckland on Tuesday 24 August 2010.  The regionals will find a finalist for each category, one in the Alto Young Butcher of the Year (30years old and under) and one in the RMITO Butcher Apprentice of the Year. 

The winner will be announced at the black-tie dinner at SkyCity, Auckland on the evening of 24 August 2010.
