About Us

The Retail Meat Industry Training Organisation (RMITO) was founded in 1993.

The RMITO receives subsidies from the Government to purchase affordable on and off job training to apprentices.

The RMITO works with the retail meat industry in designing training programmes to provide butchers with the necessary skills required by the trade. We aim to provide appropriate qualifications that recognise the skills used by butchers, and to ensure that these meet the needs of industry.

The RMITO provides the following functions:

  • Arranges and administers off job training and provides help to apprentices and employers to compliment the skills and knowledge obtained on the job;
  • Purchases off job training from the Polytechnics;
  • Designs training programmes for the retail meat industry;
  • Monitors and implements unit standards that are appropriate and meet the needs of industry;
  • Provides information and advice to apprentices and employers alike; and
  • Maintains records of all apprentice butchers and their progress.

Complaints Procedure

The RMITO's complaints procedure provides a means for managing complaints made against the RMITO in a fair, efficient and timely manner. For Employers or trainees wishing to obtain a copy of our policy and procedure for complaints, please contact the RMITO's General Manager. All complaints will be dealt with in a confidential manner.
