RMITO works with the retail meat industry to develop skilled and qualified butchers.

Founded in 1993, we are responsible for developing training and qualifications that develop and recognise the skilled butchers.  

We receive funding from Government to assist Retail Meat Industry employers to train their staff.  

The RMITO provides the following services:

• Sets the standards for the training programmes and qualifications for the retail meat industry
• Supports employers in the delivery of on-job training
• Arranges and administers off-job training
• Arranges for the assessment of trainees’ skills and knowledge
• Provides information, advice and support to trainees and their employers
• Maintains the records of achievement of all trainee butchers and arranges for the awarding of their qualification by NZQA
• Monitors the quality of the training and assessment in the Retail Meat industry
